Brunel are recruiting a Category Principal to provide specialist advice and execute Category Management activities in line with approved sourcing plans, specified guidelines and business requirements to confirm surety of supply and minimise supply risk for the business.

  • Conduct all activities in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures. Ensuring the welfare of personnel and the protection of assets and the environment at all times.
  • Ensure the Company’s commitment to and compliance with safety, quality and health regimes is reflected in all Contracts.
  • Develops effective relationships with internal business leaders to understand business requirements, to forecast demand, and verify established contracts are effective
  • Collects requirements and analyses key data inputs from multiple sources (internal and external) to help build robust category and sourcing strategies.
  • Plans and executes portfolio of sourcing projects enabling category strategies and manage on-time delivery minimising disruption to the business operations.
  • Validates application of procedures for issuing and evaluating tenders.
  • Leads negotiations with Suppliers.
  • Reviews contract award recommendations & contracts for approval.
  • Executes Sourcing Strategy and Plan, leading negotiations as directed by the Cat. Manager.
  • Mentors and oversees delivery of Category strategy of any direct or indirect reports (Category Specialists and Category/Contracts Advisors)
  • Complies with Supply processes
  • Support line to develop quality SOW
  • Commercial advisory & supplier performance. management
  • Is consulted for and supports supply processes & Supplier Performance Management
  • Drafts Tier A recommendations. Reviews contract award recommendations & contracts for approval for Tier A and B Contracts when prepared by Contracts Specialist or Contracts Advisory team.
  • Provides leadership to Contracts Specialists and Advisory team on category process.



  • Engineering/Quantity Surveying qualification, Business Administration, Law or equivalent professional or 10 plus years of relevant experience
  • Business Administration, Law or equivalent professional qualification (desirable)
  • CIPS or equivalent qualification in Procurement and Supply Chain Management
  • Is curious, and capable of performing analytics with large data sets to identify trends and patterns in spending behaviour, linking to opportunities in respective categories
  • Develops and fosters relationships within the business and externally, keeping abreast of operational needs and external market trends
  • Is innovative and entrepreneurial, with a commercial mindset that drives creative solutions and delivers category strategies that represent best value for business
  • Listens and engages broadly with business stakeholders, is able to empathise and deploy a variety of influence techniques to deliver best outcomes for the business
  • Strategic thinker, capable of developing, planning and negotiating commercial outcomes aligned with category strategy
  • Takes ownership of category and leads value delivery quickly, not just "following the process"
  • Deliver value by bringing commercial and 'value-over-process' mindset
  • Lead by example, establishing a bold vision, influencing and collaborating with business stakeholders to get them "on-board" with the vision
  • Operate with a sense of urgency and ownership. Display a high level of energy and take great pride in the high standard and quality of work.
  • Coach and empower peers and colleagues to have a bold vision, and support them through proactive coaching and mentoring
  • Has experience in contract formulation activities, systems and processes (>10 years) coupled with a working knowledge of engineering and or services/consultancy practices, preferably in oil and gas industry.Has a good understanding of CMS and ERP systems i.e. ProCon, SAP and SAP Ariba, including managing end-to-end sourcing projects and post-award contract administration and ongoing contract hygiene
    Is detail orientated, ensuring transactional details are captured throughout sourcing events and post-award agreements are transferred into relevant systems agreements
  • Listens well and engages broadly within own team and with operational stakeholders.
  • Can perform spend analytics to identify trends and patterns in spending behaviour and alert others when there are opportunities to deliver value
  • Is accountable for delivering high-quality transactional supporting, and is supportive and enabling of others to deliver
  • Feels empowered to challenges and remove roadblocks from getting things done quickly and efficiently
  • Is value-focused, and stops doing things that don't add value, challenges the process, sparks change to deliver value over process
  • Understands of local content requirements in the contracting process
  • Has ability to work under pressure
